Macleod Modern

Photography by Graham Alderton.

Untouched since its inception, this gem of a modernist house in Macleod was the perfect place for new owners Jamal and Jorien to apply their savvy design skills and bring the house back to life.

With the design in place, Tuckbox was initially approached to provide the flatpack components for the project. The conversations developed through discussions on materials and installation methods and we ended up being engaged more deeply with the project.

Blackbutt veneers were selected by the owners (from our local supplier BORD). They visited the warehouse, viewed and selected each timber for the project and we had them pressed onto substrates for the next stage. Nesting, grainmatching, cutting, the panels were then edged, sanded and prepped for 2 coats of a very low gloss sealant.

Ducting, plumbing and cabling were taken care of with varying depths of cabinets. Shadowline fingerpull details were added along with vertical partitions - details that are reminiscent of the original kitchen. Soft close Blum hardware for drawers and hinges were used.

The finished kitchen is modern yet remains true to the original practical and understated modernist design ethos.

We built the entire kitchen up in our workshop, making sure everything came together just so, before breaking back down, delivering and finally fitting onsite.

Great honest materials, warmth, no clutter, a place for everything and everything in its place.
